Gone are the days of traditional career paths being the only career path.
Do you want to be a nurse/doctor, lawyer, teacher, accountant or work in marketing/sales? Those were pretty much the options when I met with the high school career counselor.
Careers that exist today didn’t exist a decade or two ago. Thankfully. Which has enabled women to contribute financially to their families while also having more time to spend with their families.
It’s one small way that women have been unplugging from the structures and paving their own way.
But, as I mentioned in the “shadow side of integrity” email a couple of months ago, anytime we break free from a structure or system, we can internalize subconscious guilt. Like we’re doing something wrong. Especially when we’ve abandoned all the education we received in pursuit of the traditional career. (Hiiii 🙋♀️ 👋).
People might not understand what you do. People might not respect what you do (because they don’t really know what it is). (Again, Hiiii 🙋♀️ 👋).
And it’s led to women I know questioning if what they’re doing matters. If it’s important.
So, I channeled about this last December, when I was running the Simplify Success challenge. There were about 50 women in it and most of them didn’t do the same career thing as the others.
The answer I received?
When you are providing an energy of peace or joy to someone, you are doing work that is in high alignment.
In other words, yes, it matters. Because…
When you stop to think about that, pretty much everyone, in some capacity, provides peace or joy to their clients/customers/patients.
It’s US. Us humans who judge, criticize and diminish others’ career choices and successes.
So, I might not know exactly what you do, but I do know that if you’re providing an energy of peace or joy with your service/product, you are doing the Universe a solid.
Whether that’s through a traditional career or a new-fangled-difficult-to-explain one.
Let’s own the value of our own peace/joy-generating career. Let’s own the value of others’ as well.
