Using Intuition to Heal

By April 24, 2017August 7th, 2017Adrenal, Gut, Hashimotos hypothyroiditis, Thyroid

If you’ve read any of my stuff, you know I’m a fan of using a blended approach when it comes to healing. Today I’m going to share how I used my intuition to help my healing process (Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism). It’s a little on the woo-woo side, but I often get asked about it…so here it is…

But first, let me be clear. One key piece of healing any condition is having a good doctor and the correct testing and diagnostics…that’s a non-negotiable in my book. I actually cringe when I hear someone say, I know I can do some mindset work and heal. Yes, your mindset is a huge piece of it, but it’s not the whole pie. Now that we’re clear on that, let’s get a little woo-woo…

I believe there is a fat army of angels and guides that are just waiting to help each of us and are constantly communicating with us. But we have to be open to hearing them and receiving their messages. Their guidance can show up in so many subtle ways: dreams, other people, symbols, song lyrics, coincidences, unexplained urges, body talk and more. Here are five examples that come to mind (the last one is by far the best, IMO!) 🙂

1 – Symptom Messages

At first I had no idea that many of the random things I experienced in my body were related to autoimmune disease. For example my shoulder pain. I thought my right shoulder joint was inflamed from too many down dogs. It was actually autoimmune related.

There were so many random symptoms that I became very diligent at noticing any changes in my body. One night after dinner I looked in the mirror and saw my teeth were dark brown near the gum line. I freaked out thinking it was an autoimmune symptom. My dentist said it was something I was eating.

The only thing left in my diet that was dark enough to do that was my Enjoy Life allergy free chocolate chips. There was no logical reason why something I had been eating for over a year with no side effects could create this drastic nastiness in my mouth.

Months later I quit sugar, which significantly impacted my overall health and energy levels. Those little chocolate chips, while healthy compared to most brands, had sugar in them. I knew that happened as a message to quit sugar.

2 – Food Guidance

I have a few amazingly scrumptious smoothie recipes and for years enjoyed drinking them in the morning. Right before my doctor told me tighten up my diet, two mornings in a row the little packet inside the powder made its way into my smoothie. The first day I caught it and pulled it out. The second day I missed it and didn’t realize it happened until I had paper and a toxic taste in my mouth. #gross

The second day it happened I remember thinking that it was a message to back off the protein powder. Out of the thousands of times I used the powder, this had never happened. Why all of a sudden did it happen twice in one week, I wondered. Later that week, after meeting with my doctor, I had to retire the smoothie powder because of an ingredient that was causing trouble for my body.

3 – Supplement Guidance

I had a similar situation with a supplement I was taking. It was on a shelf with some other supplements. It wasn’t on the edge of the shelf, but it kept falling off the shelf. Again, I could have chalked it up to a coincidence, but I had enough experience to know it wasn’t a coincidence. I wondered if it was time to stop taking the supplement. Maybe my body no longer needed it. Sure enough, on my next blood panel, my levels were good and I no longer needed to use the supplement.

4 – Diagnosis

As I’ve talked about in other blogs, it took me a while to get an accurate diagnosis with my thyroid disease. I was constantly exhausted and knew something was wrong, but my PCP told me I was a specimen of health.

One weekend I was at a training with some other intuitives. I told them I felt really run down and didn’t know what was going on. Two of them said there was wrong with my thyroid.

That week I went to see my acupuncturist, who I had been working with for years, and requested she do a full thyroid panel, since my regular doctor would only do a partial. Sure enough, the blood work indicated a thyroid issue.

5 – Answers

This is my favorite one. It still makes me smile. There was a point before getting fully diagnosed that I was so sick, exhausted and frustrated. I went to sleep one night begging the Universe, Angels and anyone else out there who could help me to give me some insight because I didn’t seem to be making progress with traditional paths (this was prior to meeting my amazing doctor).

The next morning I woke up to a voice yelling Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) at me. Except no one was in the room with me. I had no idea what EBV was. I googled it, naturally, and saw it had to do with mono. Great, I thought. I’m so sick my intuition is busted…because this makes no sense.

Months later, after receiving the Hashimoto’s diagnosis, I was doing guided visualizations to support the healing process. Most experts say that autoimmune is the body attacking itself. However, I had so much trouble getting behind that energetically. I couldn’t come up with a healing visualization related to my body attacking itself.

One day an article popped up on Goop by the Medical Medium, Anthony Williams, who believes that EBV causes autoimmune conditions. WHAT??!! Perhaps my intuition wasn’t broken after all! I made up a visualization to use in my meditation with EBV as the culprit, and LITERALLY felt the biggest energy shift, which as anyone who has a chronic disease knows, is HUGE.

Obviously, I am not a doctor. I do think there is still A LOT that needs to be learned by all about autoimmune conditions. Is autoimmune the body attacking itself, or it is EBV or something else? I don’t know. But I do know my intuition was trying to guide me to EBV as the answer, which did resonate with me and create some healing.

Which brings me to my last point. The reason I believe intuition — noticing “coincidences” and listening to your body — is so important is because your body is different than mine. What works for me might not work for you. The healing plan your doctor used on his/her last patient might need to be different for you. And, when you’re getting conflicting messages from professionals in your healing journey, sometimes it ultimately comes down to trusting your intuition to guide you to what’s right for you, your body and your health!
